The Role
Mills & Reeve is a highly reputable national law firm recognised for investing in its people. Several recent high‑profile panel appointments have seen an increase in tender activity. Therefore, the firm has created a new role and is looking for a Bid Manager on a permanent basis.
You will be responsible for producing tenders across the firm, ensuring bid best practice and providing practical support on all aspects of the bid process. The role encompasses both managing the bid process and drafting the material, so skills in both areas are essential.
Responsibilities
* Project manage the bid process and utilise the firm’s bid automated system to create and produce content.
* Support the legal team through to presentation and debrief.
* Take strategic input to improve the bidding process and manage projects to drive best practice.
* Interview stakeholders, advising and guiding them through both private and public sector bids.
* Draft, proofread and edit bid documents, ensuring clarity and attention to detail.
* Use IT and tender portal skills to manage submissions and maintain records.
* Lead and develop other team members on bid processes and best practice.
Qualifications
* Significant bids experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
* Commercial acumen: understanding of our business and clients, prospective targets, and their industries.
* Strong writing skills, with ability to draft compelling, plain‑English style.
* Project management and communication skills.
* Ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders and clients.
* Proactive self‑starter, motivated to contribute on a strategic and operational level.
* Can work under pressure while maintaining sense of humour and balancing workload.
* Delegation skills.
The team
You will be expected to manage your own workload but draw upon the support and guidance of others. You will join the established team of 8 bid specialists within the firm's friendly marketing team to manage bid activity and help maintain the firm's high win rate. The team is led by a Head of Bids who champions the growth and development of the Bid team and has supported progression and promotion of various team members over the last few years.
