Job Title: Planning Manager – Solar & Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Planning Manager to support the delivery of our clients expanding portfolio of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK.
You’ll play a critical role in progressing existing planning applications and ensuring the successful submission and tracking of new projects. Working closely with internal teams and external consultants, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to the UK’s renewable energy transition through real, on-the-ground impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and progress existing planning applications for solar and BESS developments across the UK.
* Liaise with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, and stakeholders to resolve issues and expedite approvals.
* Oversee the submission of new planning applications in collaboration with the development and technical teams.
* Coordinate discharge of planning conditions, appeals, and variations.
* Review planning documentation including design and access statements, EIA screening/scoping, and environmental reports.
* Track and report on project milestones, risks, and deadlines.
* Support land acquisition and grid teams by providing planning guidance and site assessments.
* Maintain an up-to-date understanding of planning legislation and policy changes affecting renewables.
Requirements
* Proven experience in UK planning, ideally with a focus on renewable energy or large-scale infrastructure.
* Strong understanding of the UK town and country planning system, particularly relating to energy projects.
* Experience engaging with local planning authorities and managing planning applications from submission to determination.
* Excellent organisational, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally.
* Relevant degree in town planning, environmental science, geography, or similar field (RTPI accreditation desirable but not essential).
