Role responsibilities
* Train to enable registration with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist in the modality of Reconstructive Science.
* Work under the guidance of the Head of Department and Training Coordinator to carry out increasingly advanced clinical, technical and scientific activities, achieving the skills to provide a highly specialised clinical, technical and advisory service to regional specialty service users.
* Undertake formal training, following an approved training programme, to achieve registration with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist.
* Undertake research, development and audit activities (clinical and quality management).
* Work on a rotational basis in all sections of the laboratory and may undertake secondments to other departments outside the trust for additional experience.
* Travel to national academic and other courses regularly throughout training, which may involve overnight and/or residential stays.
* Contribute to the effective development and organisation of technical and patient care within the host department.
* Undertake mandatory training as deemed necessary by the host department.
* Operate under the supervision of appointed supervisors agreed by local departments and ensure relevant competencies are agreed and signed off in accordance with local procedures to enable contribution to the department’s live outputs.
* Work closely with Maxillofacial Prosthetist and Reconstructive Scientist colleagues, as well as other Clinical Scientists, to enable a wider understanding of all aspects of delivery of a Reconstructive Scientist.
Requirements
* Post holder must have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult), an application to Disclosure Scotland must be made and deemed satisfactory before commencing.
* Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, it will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
* Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom, with the relevant permission to work granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service is required.
