As the Data Migration Lead, you will play a critical role in delivering a data migration and data archiving initiative. You will define the end‑to‑end data migration strategy, architecture, processes and standards, ensuring high‑quality, compliant and business‑ready data is migrated into the target platforms. You will oversee analysis, design and execution activities across multiple datasets and systems, while working collaboratively with business stakeholders, data analysts, business analysts, project delivery teams and engineering teams.
You will act as the primary point of accountability for data migration and data archiving, shaping the technical approach and ensuring all activities meet regulatory expectations, architectural principles and project timelines.

Salary: £70,618 to £77,680
Key Responsibilities
Data Migration Strategy, Architecture & Design
* Define the end‑to‑end data migration approach including strategy, processes, lifecycle, sequencing, controls, data mapping, transformation logic and reconciliation.
* Design the data migration architecture across extraction, staging, transformation, validation and load, ensuring alignment with architecture and platform requirements.
* Lead the development of data mapping specifications, business rules, transformation logic and data quality criteria in partnership with analysts and SMEs.
* Conduct detailed analysis, profiling and assessment of existing platforms and related systems to identify structures, quality gaps and business usage.
* Establish repeatable, scalable migration pipelines and standards to support iterative mock loads and continuous improvement.
* Ensure all migration activities comply with regulatory and data privacy obligations (e.g., GDPR).
Data Archiving Strategy & Implementation
* Define the data archiving strategy for legacy data, ensuring future accessibility, compliance with retention policies and business needs.
* Work with technology, legal, and compliance teams to embed retention rules, archival access processes and governance controls.
* Oversee the design and build of archival datasets, ensuring completeness, accuracy and traceability from source systems.
Execution, Testing & Quality Assurance
* Oversee migration test cycles including mock loads, data validation, reconciliation, defect management and cutover preparation.
* Direct the creation and maintenance of issue logs and coordinate triage and resolution activities across business and engineering teams.
* Drive root cause analysis of data issues and support the development of remediation actions.
* Ensure robust quality checks, controls and sign‑off processes prior to go‑live.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
* Support the project manager to lead the data migration workstream, coordinating data analysts, engineers and business SMEs.
* Act as the primary liaison for data migration with project managers, business stakeholders and technical teams.
* Facilitate workshops to validate data definitions, mappings and business transformation rules.
* Communicate progress, risks, dependencies and migration readiness to project governance forums.
* Champion data quality, understanding and readiness throughout the organisation.
Governance, Documentation & Compliance
* Own all key migration and archiving documentation including strategy, design artefacts, data dictionaries, mapping specifications, test plans, reconciliation requirements and cutover plans.
* Ensure appropriate governance, traceability, auditability and approval processes across migration and archiving activities.
* Contribute to organisational data governance and quality initiatives, ensuring consistent data standards.
Qualifications & Skills
* Relevant experience in data migration delivery, with a strong background in customer‑centric migrations.
* Experience within a regulated industry is desired, ideally in the financial services.
* Hands‑on experience designing and delivering enterprise‑scale data migrations, including mapping, transformation, cleansing, validation and cutover.
* Experience working with 3rd party vendors is advantageous.
* Strong understanding of data quality, data modelling, lineage, data profiling and ETL/ELT processes.
* Experience with data migration and integration tools (e.g., Talend, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, MuleSoft).
* Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and documentation skills.
* Strong leadership qualities with experience guiding cross‑functional teams.
* Excellent communication and presentation abilities for technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities and drive outcomes in complex programmes.
