The Role
As a materials engineer, you will support the business by applying your expertise to ensure suitable manufacturing processes and parts. You will utilize failure analysis techniques to resolve technical issues, ensuring product quality and delivery. This role requires working in a task-driven laboratory environment with technicians and engineers, understanding unfamiliar processes, and developing technical solutions. Problem-solving and adaptability are essential qualities.
This position suits individuals interested in multidisciplinary laboratory work, keen on understanding and resolving technical problems.
Responsibilities
1. Perform detailed material and assembly failure analysis.
2. Support manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams through technical investigations.
3. Produce technical reports for diverse internal audiences.
4. Manage laboratory equipment, including grinding, polishing, microscopy, SEM, and EDX.
5. Collaborate with other lab functions for comprehensive analysis.
6. Provide technical advice as a point of contact for materials-related issues.
7. Participate in risk assessments for processes and equipment.
Essential Experience
* Material analysis using microscopy and inspection techniques.
* Operation and interpretation of SEM and EDX data.
* Understanding of high-temperature joining techniques like brazing and welding.
Examples of Experience
* Assembly and failure modes of vacuum electronic components.
* Metallurgy of copper, nickel-copper alloys, steels, and braze materials.
* Component processing for vacuum electronics assembly.
* Adhesive properties and selection.
* Review of technical drawings for design and manufacturing.
* Mechanical destructive testing.
Experience with Non-destructive Techniques
Understanding the suitability and application of various non-destructive testing methods.
