Purpose of the job: The role of the Nursery Manager to provide professional leadership and management of the nursery and to help ensure that all children receive the highest standards of care and education. The Nursery Manager will undertake the overall day-to-day management of the nursery. Main duties: Childcare and Education Promote high standards of quality within the nursery in respect of the environment, resources and experiences offered to children. Ensure that all children attending the nursery receive rich and stimulating experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development. Ensure that practice and provision in the nursery meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff understand and, when necessary, follow Safeguarding Procedures. Promote and facilitate partnerships with parents/carers and other family members. Support the development of good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion. Health and Safety Be responsible for the day-to-day operation in order to ensure the health and safety of the children, their parents, carers, the team and any visitors to the nursery. Adhere to all health and safety policy and procedures. Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures. Be responsible for ensuring the nursery remains compliant in respect of suitably trained staff with relevant first aid qualifications. Staff Supervise, train and appraise all staff to ensure delivery of high-quality childcare practice. Identify training needs; develop training plans and evaluate training undertaken by staff. Develop open and positive working relationships with staff. Marketing & Customer Care Proactively represent the Company and advance its interests in the local community. Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers. Ensure that all staff develop and maintain friendly and professional relationships with parents and carers. Ensure all complaints and concerns are actively resolved in a timely manner and that these are reported to the Regional Manager. General Complete administrative duties associated with the management of the nursery, such as maintaining records on children and families, publishing children’s observations on EyLog, ordering equipment, maintaining inventories and keeping personnel records. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures. Ensure that the Company’s polices on diversity and equal opportunities are adhered to. Maintain effective methods of communication with children, staff, parents and carers. Attend meetings as and when required. Person specification Essential criteria: At least two years’ proven experience of working in an early years care and education setting or at least one years’ other suitable experience. Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent. Ability to ensure that the setting achieves and maintains at least a good Ofsted rating. Sound understanding of child development, and of children’s needs. Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities considerations. Demonstrable and detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to the early years. Understanding of the Prevent Duty in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, as it relates to early years settings. Ability to comply with the requirements placed on the setting by the EYFS. Ability to work with parents and families to encourage their involvement. Ability to effectively market the setting to maximise occupancy levels and fee income. Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of adults, including conducting performance management processes e.g. induction, supervision meetings, appraisals and setting objectives. Demonstrate a commitment to continuously promoting a culture of safeguarding. Commitment to equal opportunities and an understanding of equality and diversity issues. Ability to write clear reports. Knowledge of data protection and information management practices and their application within the setting.
