An exciting opportunity, of a 12 month fixed term contract (Maternity Cover) based at the Royal London Hospital, within the East and South East London (ESEL) Pathology Network, for an enthusiastic Specialist Transfusion Practitioner who shares our vision of a high-quality transfusion service, and invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced Nurses, Biomedical Scientists Band 7 level, or a Band 6 already fulfilling a TP role or keen to move their career in that direction.

Responsibilities
* Education and training of Trust staff in clinical Blood Transfusion
* The development and implementation of the Trust’s policies and procedures for Blood Transfusion
* To enable the Trust to fulfil statutory requirements e.g. Health Service Circular 2007/001, NPSA Notice 14 (Nov 06) and Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (2005)
* Transfusion Clinical Governance by improving the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusion practice in the Trust and participating in Blood Transfusion audit
* Providing a link between the Blood Transfusion laboratory and clinical transfusion practice on the wards
* The post holder will work closely with the Lead Transfusion Practitioner, Lead Consultant Haematologist for blood transfusion, the blood transfusion laboratory and will be a member of the Trust Transfusion Committee, Hospital Transfusion Committee and the Trust Transfusion Team
* Represent Blood Transfusion for the Barts Health Trust, ESEL Pathology Partnership and external meetings as required
* Contribute to service improvement and facilitate delivery of current service provision across the Trust
* Participate in Blood Transfusion audit and governance activities
Qualifications & Requirements
* Applications invited from suitably qualified and experienced Nurses, Biomedical Scientists Band 7 level, or a Band 6 already fulfilling a TP role or keen to move their career in that direction
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organise and motivate staff
* Ability to work as part of a team within the Blood Transfusion management framework
About the Pathology Partnership
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health. The Pathology Partnership was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS). The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership.

The Partnership has a total operating cost of c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE (2024/25).
