Job overview

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality patient care in a dynamic and supportive environment? We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team in the Welcome Treatment Centre at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In this role, you will assist in the care of patients undergoing a range of treatments including Haematology and Oncology chemotherapy, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and supportive therapies such as blood product transfusions. Working under the supervision of our experienced Registered Chemotherapy Nurses, you will play a vital part in ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate, and efficient care throughout their time in the unit.

This is a hands-on role that will involve a variety of clinical and support tasks including:

* Taking and recording patient observations
* Weighing patients
* Performing venepuncture and cannulation
* Assisting with personal care needs
* Supporting the safe flow of patients through the unit
* Performing ECGs (training provided)
* Stocking patient trollies and managing sharps disposal
* Collecting blood products (training provided)

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy day case setting, where no two days are the same. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills, contribute to patient wellbeing, and be part of a team that values professionalism, empathy, and teamwork.

Person specification


Knowledge Requirements

* Demonstrate good communication skills and understanding of basic requirements for individual patient care.
* Recognise people’s right to privacy and dignity, treating every person with respect.
* Awareness of Safeguarding issues.


Qualifications/Academic/Craft/Professional

* NVQ 3 in care or willingness to work towards.
* Educated to a good standard of general education equivalent to GCSE Maths & English level C or above
* Care Certificate or commitment to achieving within 2 weeks of commencement


Further Training

* Able to attend a 5-day Clinical Induction.
* Committed to attending further training and development as identified.


Experience

* Able to demonstrate clear and robust verbal and written English communication skills.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Previous care work experience.
* Previous experience in a hospital setting.


Contractual Requirements

* Flexible approach.
* Able to work flexibly on a varied shift pattern according to the roster including nights and weekends.
