Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join our client's healthcare team at Peterborough Prison. As an RGN in a prison healthcare setting, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive medical care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring their health and well-being while adhering to the unique challenges of a correctional facility.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Assessment and Care:
o Conduct comprehensive health assessments of inmates, including physical and mental health evaluations.
o Develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates, addressing both chronic conditions and acute medical needs.
2. Medication Management:
o Administer medications as prescribed, adhering to proper dosage and timing.
o Maintain accurate medication records and monitor inmates' compliance with medication regimens.
3. Emergency Response:
o Be prepared to respond promptly to medical emergencies within the prison, including assessing and stabilizing patients.
o Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of timely and appropriate care.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, documenting all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans.
o Prepare and submit reports as required by prison healthcare policies and regulatory agencies.
5. Prison Security and Safety:
o Comply with all prison security measures and safety protocols.
o Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with inmates and prison staff.
6. Infection Control:
o Implement strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of diseases within the prison population.
o Promote and educate inmates on proper hygiene and disease prevention.
Qualifications:
* Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN).
* Previous experience working as an RGN, preferably in a healthcare setting with exposure to a diverse patient population.
* Possession of prison clearance is mandatory.
* Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a secure and potentially challenging environment.
* Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and best practices in correctional healthcare.
