Service Care Legal are seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join a busy local authority legal team, handling a varied caseload across criminal and civil matters. ROLE: Locum Litigation Lawyer LOCATION: Hertfordshire RATE: £55ph umbrella / £48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £43,24ph PAYE exc. holiday pay CONTRACT: 36 hours per week, initially 3 months with scope of extension Please note this role would require office attendance 1 day per week. Key Responsibilities Manage a mixed litigation caseload including criminal prosecutions, civil disputes, and housing matters Conduct advocacy in Magistrates’ and County Courts Advise on and progress criminal prosecutions (e.g. community protection, planning, fraud) Handle civil litigation including debt recovery, injunctions, possession, and judicial review Provide legal support on housing and homelessness cases Advise on licensing matters and attend committee hearings Draft legal documents, prepare evidence, and manage cases end-to-end Liaise with clients, courts, and external counsel as required Person Specification Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with local authority experience Strong background in litigation (criminal and/or civil) Confident advocate with court experience Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Should this be an opportunity of interest, please feel free to reach out to Lloyd Stanley on 01772 208969 or email across an updated CV to Lloyd.stanley@servicecare.org.uk.
