Landscape Operative – Shrewsbury

Join our mobile landscaping team based at Severndale Nurseries, Cross Houses, Shrewsbury, and play a key role in delivering high-quality commercial soft landscaping and grounds maintenance projects across the Midlands.
As a Landscape Operative, you'll work on a wide variety of installations, from large-scale turfing and planting schemes to ongoing maintenance. You'll be part of one of the UK's most successful landscaping companies, with the opportunity to develop new skills, gain further qualifications, and build a long-term career.
What You'll Do
* Planting trees and shrubs to detailed specifications
* Turfing and large-scale grass establishment
* Barking and mulching
* Grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, strimming, and pruning
* General horticultural tasks as required
About You
* Previous landscaping or horticultural experience is preferred, but not essential – full training will be provided
* CSCS card desirable (support available to achieve this if not held)
* Full UK driving licence essential

Person Specification
Qualifications – Work based qualifications relevant to the role would be advantageous such as valid CSCS card, but no existing qualifications are required to apply for the role.
Knowledge - An understanding of the landscaping and soft landscaping construction industry would be preferred, along with an awareness of health and safety responsibilities when working with tools, plant and machinery.
Experience – Ideally the candidate will have some experience within a relevant discipline i.e. landscaping, grounds maintenance or forestry but this is not essential. Some experience of using hand tools and small machinery such as brush cutters, strimmer's or pedestrian cultivation equipment would also be advantageous. Relevant training will be provided
Skills –Good work ethic with the ability to work as part of a team
-Enthusiastic and motivated, willing to learn new skills
-Ability to communicate with team members
* Full UK Driving Licence is essential (licence to tow a trailer would be preferred but not essential)
* Willingness to work away from home when required (predominantly in the Midlands, but contracts may require travel further afield).
Job Description
Main Duties – Reporting to the Lead Operatives/ Supervisors the successful candidates will work within our existing landscaping teams undertaking a wide range of landscaping and grounds maintenance activities. Typical tasks include:
* Turfing, seeding, planting, mulching, and soil preparation.
* Safe use of hand tools, small machinery, and pedestrian cultivation equipment.
* Assisting with set-up and operation of compact tractors and trailers under supervision.
* Ensuring work is carried out to specification, on time, and to a high standard.
* Complying with all health & safety requirements, including safe manual handling.
The majority of the work will be Midlands based, but candidates should be aware that working away from home may be required at times to suit individual contract requirements. Candidates should be aware that the role will involve the use of plant, machinery and equipment and will include physical exertion (manual handling etc.) on a daily basis.
Training Delivery – Training will be delivered to the candidate through a combination of in-house training and external training providers. Experience in the core aspects of landscaping will be gained on a daily basis via in house training on the job. These new found skills / experiences will be backed up with recognised qualifications which will be delivered by external training providers. Typical qualifications that may be undertaken:
-Valid CSCS Card

-DVLA Trailer Training
-Emergency First Aid at Work
-NPTC Chainsaw
-NPTC Pesticides (PA1, PA6)
