Director of Children’s Social Care (Family Help and Safeguarding)
Swindon Borough Council is seeking a visionary, creative and driven Director of Children’s Social Care (Family Help and Safeguarding) to sustain momentum, embed lasting change and ensure consistently strong practice for children and families. The role will lead the next phase of improvement with responsibility for targeted Early Help, Family Help, Safeguarding and Youth Justice. You will drive delivery of Families First reforms, strengthen practice quality and ensure services work together to reduce demand through earlier, more effective support.
Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of Early Help, Family Help, Safeguarding and Youth Justice services.
* Drive the implementation of Families First reforms and strengthen practice quality.
* Ensure services collaborate to reduce demand through early, effective support.
* Support and develop the workforce, creating conditions for staff to thrive.
* Champion high‑quality practice and keep the voices of children, young people and families central.
* Provide strategic direction, clarity and impact, shaping your team’s work.
Qualifications
* Qualified social worker with deep expertise in children’s social care.
* Experience leading within a complex system and translating vision into practice.
* Proven track record delivering sustained improvement in an improving authority.
* Strong leadership, accountability and partnership‑building skills.
* Values‑led, visible leader who invests in workforce and champions children’s voices.
