Exclusion Prevention Lead Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working)
Rate: £550-£650 per day
Directorate: Children and Families
Reports to: Head of Attendance and Inclusive PathwaysAbout the RoleAre you passionate about inclusive education and preventing school exclusions? Birmingham City Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Exclusion Prevention Lead to head our Exclusions Team and champion inclusive pathways for children and young people across the city.This pivotal role involves working in close partnership with schools, settings, and agencies to develop and deliver strategies that reduce exclusions and promote early help interventions. You will lead on Alternative Provision, Managed Moves, and the development of inclusive pathways that support every child’s right to education.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the Exclusions Service and develop inclusive strategies to prevent school exclusions.
2. Collaborate with schools, internal directorates, and external agencies to address exclusion-related issues.
3. Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the Exclusions Strategy.
4. Promote and support Alternative Provision and Managed Moves.
5. Drive continuous improvement through service planning and performance monitoring.
6. Manage teams effectively, including performance and capability oversight.
7. Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are met in collaboration with Education Safeguarding teams.
8. Monitor financial and physical resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
About YouYou will bring:
9. A degree-level education or relevant professional qualification.
10. Substantial experience working with children and young people with behavioural difficulties.
11. Proven ability to lead initiatives aligned with statutory procedures and legislation.
12. Strong safeguarding knowledge and judgement.
13. Excellent leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
14. The ability to influence, persuade, and build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders.
15. Amitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
