We are looking for an enthusiastic full-time Research Assistant to join Dr. Fengzhu Xiong's team at the Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge.

The successful candidate will be involved in studies of cell dynamics and tissue mechanics during embryo development. The candidate will work closely with the PI to conduct research, develop tools, manage lab resources and support the smooth running of the lab. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, they will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a variety of areas including biochemistry, molecular biology, embryology, imaging, computation, soft matter physics and engineering.

A key benefit is that the candidate may take on career development activities including appropriate professional and graduate courses, including a fully supported PhD degree course (3-4 years) at University of Cambridge, while in the role.

Responsibilities

* Work with the PI to conduct research projects and tool development, training independent research skills.
* Master and maintain lab equipment, protocols and reagents, and provide training/orientation to new lab members where required.
* Assist the PI in maintaining work standards and compliance with regulations.
* Organise and participate in regular group meetings and other group activities.


Qualifications

* Recently completed, or in the final stages of completing, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a course broadly related to cell and developmental biology, biophysics, soft matter physics or bioengineering.
* Strong research interest in developmental biology and long‑term career motivation to become a researcher.
* Competence in organisation, communication and teamwork skills.
* Prior experience working in research labs is desirable.
