Serving a diverse North London community, the school places strong emphasis on early intervention, emotional literacy, and positive behaviour for learning. Senior leaders recognise that the foundations for behaviour and emotional regulation are formed during the early years. As a result, the school has invested heavily in pastoral support and SEND provision to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time. Due to increasing behavioural and emotional needs across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their growing support team. Role Purpose The Behaviour Mentor will support pupils who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour management, social interaction, or engagement in learning. Many pupils supported in this role may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or delayed emotional development. You will work closely with pupils both in and out of the classroom, acting as a consistent and trusted adult. Through structured routines, positive reinforcement, and nurturing relationships, you will help children develop self-regulation skills, emotional awareness, and confidence within the school environment. Key Responsibilities Provide targeted 1:1 behavioural and emotional support Deliver small group interventions focused on emotional literacy and social skills Support children within Nursery and classroom settings Assist pupils during transitions and changes in routine Support behaviour during playtimes and lunchtime periods Implement individual behaviour support plans consistently Use play-based, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches Work collaboratively with class teachers, EYFS staff, and the SENCO Observe, assess, and track pupil behaviour and progress Maintain detailed records and contribute to review meetings Build positive and trusting relationships with parents and carers Support safeguarding and child protection procedures The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be calm, empathetic, and emotionally resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You should understand that behaviour is a form of communication and feel confident responding to challenging situations with patience and consistency. You should demonstrate: Experience working in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, and early childhood development A nurturing and consistent approach to behaviour support Strong communication and teamwork skills Emotional resilience and adaptability A reflective and proactive mindset Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health are desirable but not essential.
