Your Role
As a Design Manager at WSP in the PMCM Civil Infrastructure and Utilities team, you will be responsible for delivering complex projects of regional, national, and international significance across sectors such as highways, aviation, defence, security, energy, environment, and water. You will lead multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure high-quality, timely, and budget-compliant project delivery.
Our Design Managers are adaptable, innovative, and comfortable working on significant and complex projects. You will collaborate with external clients and internal teams, utilizing WSP offices, client sites, and project locations to deliver strategic projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage medium/large scale projects with significant responsibility.
2. Plan and track documentation, ensuring design certainty through management and assurance controls.
3. Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
4. Lead Design Team Meetings, record minutes, and ensure actions are completed.
5. Improve and implement project management processes, coordinate disciplines, and resolve design issues.
6. Review quotations to ensure alignment with scope, budget, and client requirements.
7. Manage project changes and delays appropriately.
8. Update project delivery programs and understand project scope and responsibilities.
9. Promote efficiency, innovation, and buildability in design stages.
10. Coordinate across disciplines, ensuring quality and value addition.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships in medium/major projects.
2. Proficiency in stakeholder management, risk, planning, and commercial management.
3. Ability to develop client relationships through effective communication.
4. Curious, solution-focused, and responsive to client needs.
5. Experience in delivering value-added services.
6. Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
7. Degree in engineering, design, architecture, or management (advantageous).
8. Contract management experience or accreditations (advantageous).
9. Experience with organizations like National Highways, Transport for London, or similar (advantageous).
