Family support officer – inclusive secondary school – manchester

Manchester
Marchant Recruitment
Support officer
Posted: 16 February
Offer description

A well-established and community-focused secondary school in Manchester is seeking an experienced and compassionate Family Support Officer to strengthen its pastoral team. The school serves a diverse urban intake and is widely recognised for its inclusive ethos, strong safeguarding culture and commitment to removing barriers to learning. Pastoral care is central to the school’s identity. Attendance, wellbeing and family engagement are prioritised, with a clear belief that strong relationships underpin academic success. The Role You will work closely with students, families, Heads of Year and safeguarding leads to provide early intervention and targeted support. The role involves building trusting relationships with parents and carers, identifying barriers to attendance or engagement, and coordinating appropriate support strategies. You will conduct home visits where appropriate, liaise with external agencies and contribute to multi-agency meetings to ensure students receive holistic support. Accurate record keeping and compliance with safeguarding procedures are essential. The role also involves supporting attendance initiatives, mentoring vulnerable pupils and delivering small-group interventions focused on resilience, wellbeing and re-engagement. The School Environment Located in a well-connected part of Manchester, the school has recently strengthened its pastoral systems and invested in additional student support roles. Leadership is visible and values collaborative working between academic and pastoral teams. Behaviour systems are clear and consistently applied, allowing support staff to work proactively rather than reactively. The safeguarding team is experienced and well-structured, providing clear guidance and oversight. Who We Are Looking For • Experience working with families, young people or within education • Strong understanding of safeguarding and multi-agency collaboration • Confident communicator with the ability to build trust quickly • Organised and able to maintain accurate, confidential records Why Join This School? You will join a school that genuinely values its pastoral staff and understands the importance of family engagement in improving outcomes. This is an opportunity to make a measurable difference within a supportive and well-led Manchester secondary. Please submit your CV to apply for this role.
