A Carpenter including Locksmith is required to join the facilities and maintenance team at HMP Springhill, HP18 0TL. You will play a key role in maintaining woodwork, locks, structures and fixtures across the estate, helping ensure safety, security and operational efficiency. Key ResponsibilitiesYou will plan and undertake maintenance of all woodwork, including doors, windows and mechanical locks excluding electronic systems. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and managing all mechanical locking systems in line with the site locking policy including controlling lock stores, inventories and associated logs. You will install structures and fixtures such as frames, windows and mouldings, measure and shape materials, and construct structural frameworks including walls, floors and doorframes. You will carry out quality checks on locks and keys including condemnation and arrange transportation to the central locking unit when required. You will support planned maintenance, refurbishment and new works across staff and prisoner areas including painting and decorating where needed. You willplete maintenance tasks raised through the CAFM system, prioritise work effectively, manage stock levels and ensure all materials are logged and fit for purpose. Additional responsibilities include supervising prisoner work where appropriate, carrying out inspections including at height and in confined spaces, escorting contractors in line with security procedures, undertaking emergency or urgent tasks, managing tool inventories and maintaining Health and Safety standards, including acting as Fire Warden or First Aider when required.
Skills and Experience RequiredYou should have proven experience in carpentry, ideally with locksmith experience in amercial, industrial or maintenance environment. You must bepetent in the use of hand tools, power tools and relevant machinery. Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and safe systems of work is essential. Basic IT skills including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel are desirable.
QualificationsCity and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent experience is essential. A First Aid at Work qualification is desirable.
Hours and PayYou will work Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week.Monday to Thursday: 8am to 5pm. Friday: 8am to 4pm. The hourly rate for this role is £ Security vetting is required for this position.
