Location: Portsmouth | Salary: £23,733 (£118,665 x 0.2 FTE) per annum | FTE: 0.2 (7.4 contract hours) | Contract: Permanent – Part‑time

The Primary Care Simulation Lead will provide strategic leadership and oversight of simulation-based education within the primary care curriculum, ensuring high‑quality, innovative and impactful campus‑based learning experiences. Working at the interface of clinical practice and academia, the post holder will lead the design, development and continuous improvement of GP simulation, support the integration of primary care teaching across the programme and enhance student preparedness for clinical practice. Through collaboration with GP educators, faculty and wider stakeholders the role will contribute to excellent student outcomes, faculty development and the growing profile of primary care within medical education locally and nationally. The holder will shape how simulation is used to reflect the realities of modern general practice, ensuring alignment with curriculum, assessment and workforce priorities.


Responsibilities

* Provide strategic leadership and oversight of simulation-based education within the primary care curriculum.
* Design, develop and continuously improve GP simulation activities.
* Integrate primary care teaching across the programme.
* Collaborate with GP educators, faculty and stakeholders to improve student outcomes.
* Ensure simulation programmes align with curriculum, assessment and workforce priorities.
* Contribute to the profile of primary care in medical education.


Qualifications and Experience

* GMC registered General Practitioner, practising in the UK.
* Experience in placement coordination, educational leadership or stakeholder engagement.
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education or evidence of ongoing educational development (desirable).
* Familiarity with primary care structures within the local healthcare system (advantageous).
* Current clinical GP role; preference for those based in Hampshire or surrounding region.
* Ability to work a flexible 0.2 FTE role (equivalent to 2 GP sessions).
* GP Educator pay scale on NHS.


Additional Requirements

The post is a 0.2 FTE role, designed to offer flexibility with on‑campus delivery and off‑site activity. The position allows blended working, including home‑based preparation and development work.

Salary Information

New appointments are made to the entry point (minimum) for the advertised grade, with annual cost‑of‑living increases and progression to the maximum within a reasonable timeframe. A higher starting salary or market supplement may be available for a truly exceptional candidate.
