Job Summary
Locum Consultant in Adult cardiothoracic and general Intensive Care Medicine with an interest in Severe Acute Respiratory Failure (SARF) and ECMO. Seeking a highly trained individual committed to Adult Intensive Care Medicine with experience in managing both general and cardiothoracic intensive care patients including those receiving ECMO support. Experience in transport of the critically ill adult is essential. Successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who has experience in this field and is driven to develop the SARF and adult ECMO service at UHL.
Main Duties
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
* Provide daytime Consultant cover for the Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) at the GH.
* Participate in the AICU/ECMO Consultant on-call rota, minimum 1 in 7.
* Support the development and expansion of the SARF and Adult ECMO programme at UHL.
* Assist with the development of the research programme in Critical Care and ECMO at UHL.
* Supervise and train junior anaesthetic and intensive care medical and nursing staff.
* Appraise and assess junior doctors.
* Participate in nationally renowned ECMO and adult critical care transport courses held at Glenfield hospital.
* Participate in ECMO, TOE, Echocardiography/critical care ultrasound and FICM teaching programme provided by the department.
* Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
* Engage in teaching, audit, research and administration.
* Develop the Adult Critical Care and ECMO Service along with other Adult Critical Care Consultant colleagues at UHL.
Responsibilities
o Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants, CMG and Trust.
o Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
o Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties.
o Participate in medical audit/quality improvement projects and Trust's Clinical Governance processes.
o Ensure duties carried out to highest standard in line with GMC Good Medical Practice and current quality initiatives.
o Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
o Respond in timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers.
Qualifications (Essential)
o MB BS, MB ChB or equivalent.
o Full GMC Registration.
o FFICM or equivalent.
o Eligible for entry/entered on specialist register of the GMC for Intensive Care Medicine or possession of CESR/CCT/CESR(CP) in Intensive Care Medicine at interview.
o Completed advanced ICM training or equivalent (Step 2/Stage 3) as specified by FICM.
o Completed an SSY in ECMO, ECMO fellowship or equivalent senior level training.
Qualifications (Desirable)
o Higher degree/diploma (MSc, PhD, MD).
Experience / Clinical Skills (Essential)
o Contemporary experience and training in general and cardiothoracic adult Intensive Care medicine.
o Experience in ECMO cannulation.
o Experience in transport of the critically ill adult patient.
o Experience and extended training in Adult Critical Care.
Experience / Clinical Skills (Desirable)
o CALS.
o Completion of ECMO provider course.
o FICE accreditation / accreditation.
o BSE and/or EAE Accreditation in TOE/TTE.
