The role

Machine Operator (Tractor/Excavator/Dumper/Ufkes etc)

Location: Maidstone (ME)

Salary: £121 - £130 per day (competitive, based on experience)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 5pm (9.5‑hour days). Overtime flexibility required to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Overtime: ×1.5 for evening and Saturday shifts; ×2 for Sunday shifts.

Purpose

Perform a variety of tasks on site, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. Prioritise tasks and take responsibility for tooling, maintenance and safety procedures. Operative with additional certification responsible for maintenance and safe use of plant and machinery on site.

Task Management

  • Effectively manage and complete multiple tasks on site, ensuring all are finished within specified timeframes and to required standards.
  • Prioritise tasks based on urgency and workload, ensuring duties are carried out efficiently as per Team Leader instructions.

Risk Assessments & Safety

  • Assist in completing daily risk assessments, ensuring all risks are identified and mitigated appropriately.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that daily tasks comply with safety procedures, including PPE inspections and assigned equipment.
  • Identify near misses and intervene positively when necessary, following the reporting procedure on Procore.
  • Regularly attend Safety Forums to stay updated on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Comply with monitoring equipment requirements such as Reactec (for HAVs monitoring).
  • Ensure sites are safe and appropriately signed/barriered to protect the public.

Tooling & Machinery Maintenance

  • Responsible for own tooling and machinery, ensuring regular checks and maintenance to meet compliance standards and documentation on Procore.
  • Perform general troubleshooting of assigned machinery and tooling, addressing issues promptly.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and maintain all assigned machinery and tools in good working order.
  • Report significant equipment issues to appropriate person or department for further action.

Problem Solving & Issue Resolution

  • Resolve minor issues on site as they arise, applying practical solutions and utilising experience of Team Leader.
  • Escalate problems requiring higher attention to Team Leader or Supervisor promptly.

Site Paperwork & Reporting

  • Complete all necessary site documentation as required on Procore, including tasks delegated by Team Leader.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.

Support & Mentorship

  • Support less experienced or newer operatives, offering guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Lead by example by applying new knowledge and best practices learned through safety forums and on‑job experience.

General Site Duties

  • Contribute to smooth running of daily site operations, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely to a high standard and on time.
  • Keep own work area tidy and safe, maintaining a clean and organised site.

Customer

  • Be aware of impact on local community and end customer.
  • Be courteous in interactions with Customers; elevate issues appropriately.
  • Direct Customer queries and complaints to Team Leader and main office.

Machine Maintenance & Inspection

  • Conduct daily pre‑start checks and routine inspections to ensure safe operational readiness.
  • Report defects or abnormalities promptly and coordinate with maintenance teams for resolution.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g. fluid top‑ups, filter changes) following manufacturer guidelines, escalating to Fleet Co‑ordinator/Workshop Manager.
  • Maintain accurate logs for inspections, servicing and repair history on Procore.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Operate machinery in accordance with company safety protocols and statutory regulations (e.g. PUWER, LOLER).
  • Wear appropriate PPE and maintain hazard‑free working environment.
  • Attend regular safety briefings, toolbox talks and refresher training as required.
  • Participate actively in incident reporting and support investigation processes.
  • Follow designated traffic routes and safety signage on site.
  • Ensure secure parking and shutdown procedures are followed at the end of each shift.

Collaborative Safety Culture

  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and clients to address emerging risks.
  • Take personal accountability for safety – both self and others – promoting responsible conduct among peers.
