Position: English Teacher Location: Bicester Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Start Date: September 2025 Monarch Education is seeking a dedicated and qualified English Teacher to join a vibrant and supportive secondary school in Bicester on a full-time, long-term basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging, well-structured English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, including GCSE and A-Level. You will play a vital role in fostering a love of English, developing students' literacy, and encouraging critical thinking and creativity. Key Responsibilities of an English Teacher: Teaching and Learning: Design and deliver high-quality English lessons that inspire and challenge students at KS3, KS4, and KS5. Develop engaging schemes of work and lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. Foster a classroom environment that encourages active participation, discussion, and independent thinking. Incorporate a wide range of teaching strategies, including literary analysis, creative and transactional writing, language development, and media literacy. Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress and provide feedback that motivates improvement. Support students in their preparation for GCSE and A-Level examinations, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge needed for success. Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere. Establish clear expectations for behaviour and academic standards. Use effective behaviour management strategies to promote focus, respect, and collaboration among students. Ensure health and safety procedures are followed, particularly during practical activities related to language and literature projects. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with colleagues to review and continuously improve the English curriculum, keeping it relevant, engaging, and challenging. Contribute to the development of resources and assessment materials aligned with national standards. Support the wider literacy and language initiatives within the school community. Student Welfare and Support: Provide pastoral support and guidance to help students develop confidence and resilience. Recognise and address individual learning needs, working with support staff and parents when appropriate. Encourage students' personal growth through participation in extracurricular activities such as debating clubs, reading groups, or drama productions. Collaboration and Professional Growth: Participate actively in departmental meetings, sharing best practices and contributing to team planning. Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance teaching strategies and student outcomes. Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with curriculum changes and innovative teaching methods. Key Skills and Qualifications: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential. Degree in English, Literature, or a related field. Proven experience teaching English at KS3, KS4, and KS5, with a strong understanding of the curriculum. Ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of all students and assess their progress effectively. Excellent classroom management and organisational skills. Passionate about English and capable of inspiring students to develop a love for the subject. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with staff, students, and parents. Personal Attributes: Enthusiastic, professional, and committed to high standards of teaching and student well-being. Creative and flexible in implementing innovative teaching methods. Dedicated to supporting the holistic development of students. Willing to contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities and school events.
