Platform & Security Engineer at Gradient Labs. We are building an AI agent platform to enable secure, scalable customer operations. This is a greenfield role with significant ownership, reporting to the CTO, and involving collaboration with AI, engineering and product teams to embed robust security practices throughout the development lifecycle.
About The Role
We are looking for our first Platform & Security Engineer – a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our growing team. In this critical, greenfield role, you will shape and secure our cutting-edge AI agent platform and underlying infrastructure from the ground up.
You will lead the technical vision for platform & security, collaborating closely with AI, engineering and product teams to embed robust security practices throughout our development lifecycle. This role focuses on applying deep security expertise in AI and building enterprise-grade security systems in a rapid, evolving environment.
Responsibilities
* Lead platform security: ownership of application, cloud, network, and AI agent security across the platform; perform secure design reviews, oversee threat modeling, and build security primitives into product and infrastructure.
* Architect & implement secure platform tooling: design and implement a security framework covering customer-facing products, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and enterprise integration points; protect against modern, AI-enabled threats.
* Embed security in AI: partner with AI engineering teams to incorporate security into model evaluation and deployment processes.
* Automate security operations: integrate tooling into CI/CD pipelines, using AI-based or next-gen solutions to automate scans, compliance checks, and infrastructure reviews.
* Continuously improve security posture: conduct audits, perform penetration testing, stay ahead of AI security risks, and lead initiatives as the company scales.
* Enable enterprise customer needs: explain security posture to enterprise clients and address concerns around regulated data with clear, actionable insights and support compliance requirements.
* Incident response: lead security incident response with rapid resolution and minimal service impact.
* Mentor and educate: foster a security-first culture across the engineering organization.
Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in security engineering with strong web app, cloud (AWS or GCP), and networking knowledge.
* Hands-on experience with production software development (e.g., Python, Go), scripting, and DevOps automation.
* Familiarity with secure coding practices, threat modeling, vulnerability scanning, and incident response.
* Solid knowledge of cloud security architecture (including VPC) and enterprise deployment patterns.
* Proven track record building or integrating security systems that meet enterprise requirements (e.g., SIEM, vulnerability management, compliance platforms).
* Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment, adaptable to changing priorities and ambiguity.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain risk trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences, including executives and customers.
* Customer-first mindset with passion for understanding customer needs to determine security solutions from first principles.
