Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic senior clinical fellow to join our busy tertiary level Neonatal Intensive Care team. The hospital has approximately 6,000 deliveries annually, many of which are high-risk referrals to the UHS Fetal Medicine.
The UHS Neonatal Service, based at Princess Anne Hospital, offers comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care, including neonatal surgery, cardiac services, and the Network Neonatal Transport Service (SONeT). The NICU is expanding to 42 cots, with about 800 neonatal admissions per year.
UHS is a lead centre within the Wessex Neonatal ODN Network, providing a full range of subspecialty services and receiving referrals from surrounding hospitals. Neonatal intensive care includes high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide, therapeutic hypothermia, and management of extremely preterm infants born at >22 weeks gestation.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Applicants should have at least 5 years of clinical experience post-medical school and a minimum of 12 months tertiary (NICU) neonatal experience, including management of extremely preterm infants. A minimum of 6 months UK clinical experience in NICU or paediatric specialty is required.
The successful candidate will cover Neonatal Intensive Care, High Dependency, and Special Care units, and gain transport experience. Paediatric cover is separate.
Additional Information
Appointments are under local contractual terms for Trust-appointed (non-training) doctors. Candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, with a designated educational supervisor. CPD and study leave are supported. GMC registration and revalidation are mandatory, with annual appraisals.
Salary for Trust-appointed fellows:
* MT04 £61,825
* MT05 £70,425
Salary depends on experience and skills. Eligibility for Nodal Point 5 includes:
* Minimum 6 years of Specialty training
* Higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
* Evidence portfolio demonstrating meeting progression criteria

Essential:
* MBBS or equivalent
* GMC registration with licence to practise
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* At least 5 years post-graduation experience
* 12 months tertiary NICU experience
* 6 months NHS paediatric/neonatal experience
* NLS (or APLS) provider
* Sound clinical judgement ability
Desirable:
* MSC/BSc or intercalated degree
* Registrar level NICU experience, including neonatal transport
* Experience managing preterm infants >22 weeks
* Experience with HFOV, nitric oxide, hypothermia, cerebral monitoring
* Research interest or experience
Aptitudes and skills
Essential:
* Competent IT skills, familiar with NHS systems
