Job Description Our client, a well-established and respected manufacturing business is seeking a Buyer / Planner to join its Purchasing, Planning & Stock Control team - initially on a 6 month FTC, but this could be made permanent. This is a key role supporting the smooth flow of materials and production, ensuring service levels, cost control, and supplier performance are consistently achieved. The Role You’ll be responsible for purchasing finished goods and components, managing inventory, and supporting production planning activities. The role combines hands-on purchasing with planning coordination and supplier management. Key Responsibilities Raise and manage purchase orders in line with company systems and guidelines Maintain inventory levels and ensure accuracy of stock control Liaise with suppliers to confirm delivery schedules and resolve delays Monitor and report on cost movements and identify savings opportunities Review and update MRP parameters, forecasts, and recommended orders Maintain supplier records, pricing, and documentation Negotiate pricing, terms, and service levels with suppliers Check supplier invoices for accuracy before processing Adjust purchase orders and track goods in transit Support production through works order creation and booking Update product codes, bills of materials, and supplier price lists Use Sage (or similar ERP systems) to manage stock adjustments About You Proven experience in a purchasing or buying role within manufacturing or technical products Familiar with MRP / MRP II systems Strong negotiation and supplier management skills Highly organised with excellent attention to detail Confident communicator, both written and verbal Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) Able to work independently while contributing to a small, collaborative team What We’re Looking For A dependable, steady professional who thrives under deadlines Someone proactive, with good judgement and initiative A team player who can build strong internal and external relationships Qualifications GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (essential) Further qualifications in purchasing, business, or supply chain (desirable) This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, growing business where you can make a real impact on purchasing efficiency and production performance.
