Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent, 37.5 hours per week Support Accountant within the Financial Management Team in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a Band 5 or Band 4 candidate for this role.
The post holder will be part of the Community Services Business Unit and will help services meet all financial requirements. The Support Accountant will hold regular reviews with peers and specialist colleagues to support information gathering and resolve queries. The role requires strong data processing and analysis using Microsoft Office and to interrogate ledger sub-systems. Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, Excel, and month-end activities is essential. The post holder should actively develop skills and career progression will be supported.
Main duties
The post holder will work within the Financial Management Team for Community Services, supporting the BU Accountant and Directorate Accountant in providing high-quality financial management services. Key elements include:
* Budget statement reconciliation and analysis
* Producing budget statements from the ledger
* Investigating variances and making adjustments
* Implementing adjustments to income and expenditure for forecasts and budget setting
* Validation of new spend and involvement in business cases
* Working closely with the assistant management accountant
* Engagement with budget holders and other Trust colleagues
The post holder must be able to work independently or as part of a team, prioritise, and manage fluctuating demand. The ideal candidate should use initiative and follow management instructions.

Person specification
Essential criteria:
* Valid driving licence and car ownership or a Trust personal lease vehicle; reasonable adjustments available for disabled applicants
* Previous experience in a finance background
* Knowledge of finance computer systems (e.g., Oracle and Discoverer), financial coding structures, ledgers, accounting standards and NHS financial regime
Desirable criteria:
* Working knowledge of Oracle Financials
Qualifications:
* Actively studying towards a Professional Accountancy qualification (part-qualified)
* Studying towards ECDL accreditation or equivalent experience
