Offer description

At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Test Leadto be based at our office in Warwick.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Automotive Verification & Validation (V&V) System Engineer with specialized expertise in the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging domain. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and executing comprehensive test strategies for EV charging systems, with a strong focus on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing methodologies. You will collaborate closely with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to ensure that charging system functionality meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Area of Responsibility

Design Verification Plan (DVP) Creation & Management

1. Author and maintain Design Verification Plans (DVPs) aligned with system requirements, safety goals, and customer specifications.
2. Define traceability matrices linking requirements to test cases, test scripts, and validation results.

EV Charging Domain Validation

3. Validate AC charging (Level 1 / Level 2) and DC fast charging (CCS1/CCS2, CHAdeMO, GB/T) functionality across the full charge cycle.
4. Verify implementation of communication protocols — IEC 61851-1, ISO 15118-2/20, DIN SPEC 70121 — for Plug-and-Charge (PnC) and smart charging scenarios.
5. Test EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) interface signals, pilot control, proximity detection, and interoperability with various charging stations.
6. Evaluate charging performance under boundary conditions: low SoC, thermal limits, overcurrent protection, ground fault detection, and EMI scenarios.
7. Support homologation and type approval testing (UL, TUV, CE, OEM-specific standards).

High Voltage (HV) System Testing

8. Interpret, review, and validate HV BMS system requirements across functional domains (cell monitoring, contactor control, diagnostic strategies, thermal management, SOC/SOH algorithms).
9. Translate system‑level requirements into testable scenarios and boundary conditions for HIL environments.
10. Support definition of test coverage, behaviors, and expected outputs for BMS safety and control functions.
11. Ensure the BMS operates safely under all test conditions and failure scenarios (OV/UV, OT/UT, OC/SC, insulation faults).

3. Issue Triaging & Defect Tracking

12. Identify, document, and triage defects using Jira — including creating well-structured issues with clear steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual behavior, severity, and supporting logs/data.
13. Manage issue lifecycle from discovery through root-cause analysis, fix verification, and closure.
14. Train team members on issue reporting best practices, Jira workflows, and defect quality standards.
15. Generate Jira-based reports (sprint burndown, defect aging, open issues by component) for program status reviews.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting

16. Partner with software, hardware, systems, and program management teams to align test activities with project milestones.
17. Provide clear and actionable test reports, including pass/fail summaries, coverage metrics, and risk assessments.
18. Support root-cause investigations and present findings to engineering leadership.
19. Contribute to continuous improvement of V&V processes, test infrastructure, and documentation standards.

Knowledge / Experience

·Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.

·Hands-on HiL testing experience in an automotive environment.

·Experience setting up and maintaining HiL rigs: signal conditioning, fault insertion units (FIU), real-time targets, I/O interfacing.

·Ability to interpret and debug CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and power signals using oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.

·Strong understanding of EV charging architectures: OBC, DC-DC converter, BMS, CCU, EVSE, Power Electronics.

·Proficiency in charging communication protocols: IEC 61851-1/3, ISO 15118-2/20, DIN SPEC 70121, CHAdeMO, GB/T 27930.

·Familiarity with charging standards and safety regulations: SAE J1772, IEC 62196, UL 2202, OEM-specific requirements.

·Knowledge of high-voltage (HV) safety fundamentals and EV electrical architecture (400V / 800V platforms).

·Experience leading triage meetings, assigning priorities, and managing defect backlogs to closure within program timelines.

·Hands-on proficiency with NI VeriStand for real-time model deployment and test execution.

·Proficient with Vector CANoe / CANalyzer for bus monitoring, simulation, and CAPL scripting.

·Hands-on experience with Vector EVSE Toolkit for simulating EVSE behavior in ISO 15118 / DIN SPEC 70121 charging sessions.

·Proficient in Jira for defect creation, triage, tracking, and reporting within Agile/Scrum projects.
