Mental Health Support Worker – SEMH School Location: Ponteland Contract: Full-time We are currently recruiting a Mental Health Support Worker to join a SEMH school in Ponteland, supporting young people aged 11–16 years. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, resilient, and values-driven individual who is passionate about promoting positive mental health and building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. Working Hours Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 3:30pm The Role As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural needs within a specialist school setting. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting pupils aged 11–16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs Building positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported Providing one-to-one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing Supporting pupils to manage behaviour, emotions, and mental health challenges in a positive and proactive way Encouraging engagement, independence, and self-esteem Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals Contributing to a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s core values The Ideal Candidate Will Have experience supporting children or young people with mental health, SEMH, or additional needs (desirable but not essential) Be empathetic, patient, and emotionally resilient Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills Be committed to promoting respect, honesty, trust, compassion, and integrity Be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team Hold a valid DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one What Leader Education Offers A rewarding role supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing Ongoing professional support and development opportunities Refer-a-friend bonus scheme – £100 per successful referral (terms apply) How to Apply If you’re passionate about supporting young people and making a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.
