Locum Consultant in Frailty, Geriatrics & General Medicine
Job Summary
The post holder will be part of our team, ensuring the highest standards of care in accordance with the National Service Framework and relevant NICE guidance. They will provide acute geriatric services across William Harvey and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospitals, managing emergency care for older patients, from admission to discharge. The role supports the Medical take with a focus on frailty and patients aged 80 and over, and involves early frailty identification and comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in collaboration with therapy, discharge and community partners.
Responsibility
* Continuous clinical responsibility for patients in charge and associated administrative duties.
* Co‑operate with the Clinical Director and Care Group Management on organisational and budget matters.
* Participate in on‑call commitments and acute hospital sessional duties, ensuring continuity of inpatient care.
* Engage in flexible commitments such as administration, management, committee work, pastoral visits and relatives interviews.
* Maintain acute skills for admissions and pursue clinical leadership development through education and mentorship programmes.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Full GMC registration.
* Geriatric Medicine experience within the NHS.
* Experience in audit and service improvement.
Desirable Qualifications
* Higher degree (MD / PhD or equivalent) in Geriatric Medicine.
* Specialist registration, or commitment to obtain within 6 months of interview date.
Additional Requirements
A Disclosure and Barring Service check is required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
