Exams Manager – Gloucester
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Exams Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of examinations and assessments across a multi-campus educational setting.
This pivotal role carries full accountability for regulatory compliance, data integrity, and the consistent delivery of high-quality examination services in line with JCQ, Ofqual and awarding body requirements. You will lead and develop the Exams team, provide expert guidance to senior leaders and curriculum departments, and ensure all examination activity is delivered efficiently, securely and to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities for Exams Manager:
Lead and manage all aspects of examinations and assessments across multiple sites
Ensure full compliance with JCQ, Ofqual and awarding body regulations
Oversee high-volume, deadline-driven processes with exceptional accuracy
Develop and maintain robust administrative systems and procedures
Provide expert advice to senior leadership and curriculum teams
Maintain data integrity and quality assurance across all examination activity
Assess risk, resolve complex operational issues and make sound professional judgements
Essential Criteria
Proven experience of line managing a team and coordinating roles and responsibilities
Experience managing high-volume administrative processes with strict deadlines
Strong knowledge of administrative systems and process development
Degree-level education (or equivalent) or substantial relevant experience demonstrating strong literacy, numeracy and analytical skills
Desirable Criteria
Extensive experience within an FE examinations function
Demonstrable experience managing examinations in line with JCQ and awarding body regulations
Experience with digital or on-screen assessment systems
Relevant administrative qualification or formal training
Skills & Attributes
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, teaching staff, support teams and awarding bodies
Strong leadership, organisational and prioritisation skills
High level of IT literacy, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards
Ability to remain calm under pressure, particularly during peak examination periods
Flexible approach to working hours during busy periods (January, May and June)
Willingness to travel between campuses as required
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
