Main duties of the job
We're looking for an experienced, initiative-taking nurse specialist to join our talented team of specialist palliative and end of life care Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).
About us
The CNS role at St Catherines aligns with Health Education England's Advanced Clinical Practice Framework to ensure our underpinning standards are consistent with advanced level practice, including physical assessment and prescribing. However, consideration will be given to applicants with relevant experience who can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in these fields or have a commitment to acquiring these skills within an agreed period.
Job responsibilities
Working as part of a supportive and integrated clinical team, covering East Surrey and West Sussex, you will make a difference to local patients and their families by offering expert advice and care seven days a week, including face-to-face scheduled visits and telephone support, with occasional out of hours visits. Working alongside primary care network colleagues, you will deliver specialist palliative care to people at the end of life. You'll have shared clinical responsibility for patients referred to the hospice, supported by our community manager and the medical team.

Qualifications
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Advanced physical assessment qualification or willingness to undertake
* Independent prescriber or willingness to undertake
* Sound knowledge of palliative and end of life topics and confidence to practice within the role
* Masters degree in palliative care or similar, or willingness to undertake
* Degree/degree modules in leadership/management
* Teaching qualification
* Practice assessor and supervisor
* Research experience

Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience and expertise in palliative care
* Advanced physical and risk assessment skills
* Comprehensive and demonstrable individualised assessment, care planning with advance care planning experience
* Demonstrable advanced communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of community and extended teams
* Sound community awareness
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate in writing, in person and by telephone
* Listening, negotiation and influencing skills
* Experience of developing and teaching others both formally and informally
* Demonstrable knowledge and awareness of quality and governance
* People management experience including performance management, workforce planning and recruitment
* Experience of ensuring continuous improvement
