Role description:
A challenging and unique opportunity to apply proven signalling design skills by engaging with cross-functional projects that involve innovative and complex digital rail control systems as part of a technical delivery team.
Agility Working:
This full-time role is based in the UK and reports to the Design Manager. The work location will be linked to our Headquarters Offices, but you will be able to work within the company’s “Agility Framework and Hybrid Work Policy”. This policy allows for adaptable work arrangements, with virtual meetings via TEAMS. Attendance at the office may be required for essential client meetings, mentor meetings, and peer reviews.
Fenix has adopted an agile approach to work location, maintaining productivity and meeting deadlines. An “Agility Framework” will be tailored for each team member, subject to risk assessment. Site visits will be conducted with appropriate Health & Safety measures. Note: You must be living and authorized to work in the UK to apply for this position.
The person:
- Current Design License category 1.1.510 (IRSE framework)
- HNC or higher qualification in an engineering discipline
- Motivated to work toward a Principles License
- At least 5 years’ experience
- Familiar with computer-based design packages, CAD, and electronic management systems
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Self-motivated and able to develop good working relationships in a collaborative setting
- Experience with various systems, methodologies, and applications from a design perspective
- Knowledge of signalling equipment and systems within the railway environment
Key Responsibilities:
* Design engineer for signalling and rail control systems, delivering all aspects of design for various projects and consulting.
* Self-motivated with an understanding of deadlines and deliverables.
* Opportunity to cross-skill and collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams, pursuing professional development.
* Participate in project planning, including scheduling and resource allocation.
* Attend client meetings during project setup, development, and IDC stages, gaining experience across all GRIP stages and technical applications.
* Develop final design scopes from client documentation with mentoring support.
* Support tender submissions, bid development, and site visits.
* Report on technical reviews and contribute to weekly project reviews.
* Contribute to the weekly Design Review “Flash” meetings.
* Prepare outline designs for reviews and checks.
* Manage project timelines, risks, and impacts on key milestones.
* Conduct site surveys and correlation work as needed.
* Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and knowledge of signalling standards.
* Understand mainline and metro light rail systems and their interfaces with other railway assets.
