We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our high-performing team at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality endoscopy services, supporting both NHS and private patients, and helping us continue to build an exceptional reputation for safe, patient-centred care.
This is your chance to work in a centre of excellence where you’ll deliver diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services, including upper and lower GI endoscopy, in a state-of-the-art, patient-focused environment.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), but we are also open to part-time arrangements (20–30 hours per week over 2–3 days) to support flexible working.
You’ll be joining a collaborative, forward-thinking environment where innovation and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do.
What you'll be doing
As our Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will:
* Deliver diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, including upper and lower GI work.
* Conduct outpatient gastroenterology clinics, providing expert advice and continuity of care.
* Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient pathways and clinical quality.
* Maintain compliance with JAG standards and participate in ongoing clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to the training and development of colleagues and the wider endoscopy team.
* Participate in local and national endoscopy forums to help shape service delivery and excellence across the organisation.
What we’ll look for in you
We’re seeking a motivated and collaborative clinician who shares our commitment to quality, safety, and outstanding patient experience. You’ll bring:
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
* JAG accreditation for independent upper and/or lower GI endoscopy practice
* Demonstrable competence aligned to GRS and JAG KPIs (e.g., colonoscopy completion rate >90%)
* Substantial experience in treating gastrointestinal conditions in a specialist setting
* A proactive, team-oriented approach, with a strong commitment to patient care and continuous improvement
* Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and influence others
* Commitment to CPD, clinical governance, and contributing to strategic improvement of services
Salary is competitive, but substantive employment only to be considered
