The Research & Enterprise Directorate (RED) will assist the university to achieve its bold and transformational ambition by providing comprehensive support for the full lifecycle of R&E activities from highly skilled and professional teams. Our teams will work creatively and in collaboration with our R&E community to help fulfil the University’s ambitions to maximise its R&E impact at a local, regional and global level underpinned by processes and systems that are agile, scalable, flexible and efficient.
The Impact and Policy Officer will support the achievement of the University’s research targets, which includes delivering high‑quality REF and other external returns submissions, increasing research income, and the development, monitoring and management of policy engagement activities. You will provide input and comprehensive advice and support in preparing the University’s REF submission, with a particular focus on impact and the production and evidencing of impact case studies across a broad range of academic disciplines. This will include researching, sourcing, evaluating and curating evidence to support case studies in accordance with research assessment guidance.
The position includes line management of the Impact and Policy Officer and 2 x Environment Coordinator roles; working proactively with a wide range of senior colleagues across RED, professional services and academic staff on matters relating to REF; working on the production of high‑quality, evidence‑based impact case studies for the REF exercises in line with the assessment guidelines; and assisting the REF Senior Office by taking on specific administrative and support duties, as required, in preparation for submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
