Autism Learning Support Assistant / ALN Teaching Assistant – Newport & Cwmbran Schools
Teaching Personnel is hiring Autism Learning Support Assistants to work in partnership schools located in Newport and Cwmbran. Join a dedicated team supporting pupils with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex behavioural needs in specialist LRB units. This is an excellent opportunity for compassionate, patient, and resilient teaching assistants passionate about Special Educational Needs (SEN) support.
Position: Autism Learning Support Assistant (ALN Teaching Assistant)
Locations: Newport and Cwmbran, Wales
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Salary: Starting at £13.75 per hour
Start Date: September 2025
Key Requirements for Successful Candidates:
* Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
* Hold a current Child-Only DBS certificate (assistance provided if needed)
* Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months
* Demonstrate strength, resilience, and patience when managing challenging behaviour
* Experience working with children with SEN or Autism is preferred, but we welcome applicants with personal experience or a strong willingness to learn
Responsibilities:
* Support a small class of up to 10 pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), primarily severe ASD
* Foster a positive, supportive, and nurturing classroom environment
* Build trusting relationships with pupils, teaching staff, and parents to provide social and emotional support
* Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and caring learning space
* Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures
* Collaborate closely with teachers and other teaching assistants
* Adapt to changing situations and pupil needs as they arise

The schools in Newport and Cwmbran have dedicated LRB units designed to support children with complex Additional Learning Needs. Both locations are easily accessible by public transport, offering a professional and supportive work environment.
