Job Overview
We are seeking two Senior Software Developers to join our Transport team. Our focus is on delivering innovative services to the global aviation community as part of our responsibility as a World Area Forecast Centre. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology on unique projects that ensure safe flight operations. You will be supported by your team to succeed and develop your career at the Met Office.
Salary and Benefits
Your total reward package will be up to £63,719 annually, including:
* An outstanding Civil Service pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%
* Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA): £5,300 per annum as a market supplement, paid from April 2024 to September 2025
* Annual leave starting at 27.5 days, rising to 32.5 days after 5 years, plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell leave
Essential Criteria
* Modern standards approach: Apply and guide others in modern standards
* Programming and software engineering: Collaborate on specifications, design, code, test, and document programs of medium-to-high complexity using appropriate standards and tools
* Design systems with medium risk, impact, and complexity
* Select and apply suitable design standards, methods, and tools
* Review system designs for technology suitability, resource efficiency, and integration
* Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed team
Working Arrangements
The role may be suitable for hybrid working—part in-office, part remote. This arrangement is voluntary and non-contractual, with the advertised location being your contractual place of work.
