Subspecialty interests, especially training in hepatology, endoscopy, ERCP, EUS or GI physiology, are particularly welcome. Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, bowel cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition services are already well developed but complementary skills will be very welcome.

Main duties of the job
As a consultant here at King's Mill Hospital you will provide outpatient, inpatient and endoscopic gastroenterology services. You would also participate in the on‑call gastroenterology service which includes weekend morning ward rounds and an out of hours GI bleed service (1:9 rota currently). You will also be expected to take part in business planning of gastroenterology services in collaboration with the other consultants in the department and hospital management.
Job responsibilities
* To assist in the provision and development of a safe, effective and efficient gastroenterology service and support the Trust and its network in providing the best possible care to patients;
* To carry out all duties at the highest possible standard and in accordance with current quality initiatives within your area of work;
* Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absence;
* Any other duties that may be required from time to time;
* A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels;
* To carry out his/her duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy at all times;
* To comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff;
* To have knowledge of and employ the basic principles of infection control practice and to ensure adherence to the requirements in the Infection Control Manual.
Qualifications
* Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview;
* Membership of Royal College of Physicians or show evidence of equivalent qualification;
* Progress towards or attainment of college exams;
* Postgraduate thesis.
Clinical Experience
* Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan;
* Understanding of all aspects of gastroenterology and GI endoscopy;
* Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme;
* Attendance at Train the Trainers Course in Endoscopy.
Teaching
* Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role.
Research
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
