Location: Bracknell, Berkshire (Office-based; hybrid options negotiable)
Reports To: Commercial Manager / Procurement Lead
Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and commercially focused Buyer to join a busy M&E contracting business in Bracknell. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the procurement of mechanical, electrical, and building services materials, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. Working closely with project managers, estimators, and the commercial team, you will be responsible for sourcing suppliers, negotiating competitive rates, and managing supplier relationships to achieve best value across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Source and procure mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and general construction materials for multiple projects.
* Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers and subcontractors.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new supply chain partners.
* Ensure materials are delivered on time, in line with project programmes.
* Track and manage purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices to ensure cost accuracy and compliance.
* Monitor supplier performance and resolve any delivery or quality issues.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material availability, and cost fluctuations.
* Support the commercial and estimating teams with supplier pricing information for tender preparation.
* Ensure procurement activities are aligned with company quality, health & safety, and sustainability standards.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
* Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within construction, M&E, or building services.
* Strong commercial acumen with proven negotiation skills.
* Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with procurement or ERP systems desirable.
* Ability to build and manage strong supplier and subcontractor relationships.
* Confident communicator, both written and verbal.
Desirable Experience
* Knowledge of mechanical and electrical materials.
* Experience working within ISO-accredited businesses.
* CIPS qualification or progress toward it.
* Experience supporting projects in healthcare, education, or public sector environments.
