HMO Licensing Surveyor We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time post in the HMO licensing team. Due to the implementation of a new Additional licensing scheme last October, we are expanding the current team and are looking for an HMO licensing Surveyor to join Southampton City Council (SCC). The HMO licensing team is responsible for delivering the mandatory licensing of all larger Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) in the city and is about to implement a further Additional HMO licensing scheme. Our HMO surveyors are responsible for carrying out inspections of HMOs to ensure they meet national and local standards in relation to safety, fire safety, space standards and amenities and to deal with complaints and issues that arise from HMOs throughout the City. HMO licensing surveyor We need an additional surveyor to carry out the inspections of these HMOs to ensure they meet national and local requirements for safety, fire safety, space & amenities. The role includes Undertaking inspections and surveys of properties Drawing up floor plans & completing inspection reports Liaising with landlords and tenants Investigating complaints in relation to poor conditions and nuisance from HMOs For further information about this role please view the job description. About you: We are looking for a self-motivated and hard-working individual to join the team. You will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of construction and building, particularly in relation to residential premises. Experience of using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) & inspecting HMOs would be advantageous, as would holding a surveying or housing inspection qualification. You will need; Excellent verbal & written communication skills The ability to effectively manage your own workload & work independently Excellent IT skills It would be desirable to have; Working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance relating to licensing and enforcement of HMOs Practical experience of surveying residential properties including HMOs Certification or accreditation in surveying or assessing properties.
