YOU Counselling Clinical Supervisor

Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire

Salary: £10,767.30pa for 12 hours per week (£35,891pa FTE)

Permanent, Part Time

YOU is a registered charity that has been providing care, support and advice for over 30 years to vulnerable people, working across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Somerset, Dorset, Sussex and the Isle of Wight to give them the tools and resources they need to live independent, secure and valued lives.

Purpose

This role is part of the YOU Counselling Management Team with a primary focus on supporting all counsellors to provide 1:1 and group clinical counselling supervision within YOU Counselling. You will work with the counsellors and the Group Ethical Team to develop a programme of learning using your knowledge and skills to inform and deliver the training and grow a range of professional development opportunities. You will hold clinical responsibility for client work within your team and ensure clinical records are maintained to a high standard in line with any data protection requirements. You will work with the Group Ethical Team to ensure ethical and safe practice and promote professional development to enhance the quality and effectiveness of counselling.

Values

* I am person-centred in my work responding to clients’ needs with dignity and respect
* I act with integrity and am trustworthy: respecting the confidential nature of my role
* I pursue excellence in all that I do
* I am innovative in my thinking: recommending new ways of working which respond to what matters to internal and external clients
* I am proactive in my work and have a can-do approach: asking how I can achieve things rather than whether I can

What I will do

* I will ensure that I comply with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and lead on ethical practice for counsellors within YOU Counselling
* I will work within the YOU Trust’s safeguarding policies and am responsible for reporting and escalation, following YOU’s safeguarding and IRF processes
* I will work with the Service Manager & Group Ethical Team to develop and deliver appropriate CPD and induction training opportunities for my team, in line with required professional development to support each volunteer in their practice, including regularly reviewing the counsellors handbook
* I will work with the Service Manager to support the function of the SPOC and carry out triage and assessments with clients as well as attending weekly triage meetings
* I will work with the Service Manager to capture client feedback and develop and facilitate client focus groups to support development of the service
* I will work with the YOU Counselling Centres management team to support the day to day running of YOU Counselling
* I will work with the Group Ethical Team to deliver monthly clinical meetings for all counsellors and volunteers
* I will work with the Service Manager to support the SPOC administration teams to provide maximum coverage for the service, including evening and weekends and any help‑line development and delivery
* I will support the Service Manager with recruitment for counsellors, where required
* I will work with the Senior SPOC to review client allocations for counsellors, where required
* I will form and maintain a supervisory alliance with counsellors and ensure an effective working process within the group
* I will maintain appropriate professional boundaries with counsellors, providing confidential supervision to support their development detailing clearly the limits of that confidentiality with regards to unsafe practice
* I will structure supervision sessions in collaboration with counsellors, ensuring that each member of YOU Counselling is enabled to present and reflect on their clinical work
* I will use a range of methods to help the supervisor develop the quality and effectiveness of their counselling for the benefit of their clients and give accurate and constructive feedback on their work
* I will foster self‑awareness of each counsellor’s level of knowledge, experience and stage of professional development and support with identifying appropriate CPD and training
* I will support the counsellors to monitor their well‑being and fitness to practice, encouraging the use of their own personal therapy and other support resources if issues are identified
* I will ensure the counsellors assess and manage risk issues, specifically with regards to safe and ethical practice
* I will carry out case management, ensuring all notes are kept to a high standard and updated to the case management system within 48 hrs of each session
* I will hold a case load of clients and attend clinical supervision with my peers and supervisor
* I am committed to my professional development and maintaining my own BACP accreditation
* I am part of a community awareness team, working on my own initiative or with colleagues
* I may undertake any other reasonable tasks in relation to my role to ensure delivery of an outstanding, client‑led service
