Overview
8b Clinical/Counselling or Forensic Psychologist (0.6 wte) based at Hellesdon Hospital. Provide clinical leadership to the male inpatient pathway and work within a large psychology team across NSFT’s inpatient and community services. The role includes supervision and line management of psychology staff on the male pathway and contributing to local and trust-wide service development.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the provision of evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment across the male inpatient wards.
* Provide specialist assessment and formulation of complex cases to inform clinical decision making regarding diagnosis, risk management, and treatment pathways.
* Lead clinically within the MDT and with community services to promote psychological thinking and formulation to facilitate optimal patient care and adherence to best practice guidelines.
* Collaborate with families and carers on complex cases where appropriate.
* Provide line management and clinical supervision to other clinicians within the inpatient psychology team.
* Work with the Associate Director of Psychology on local and trust-wide service development and initiatives.
The role includes supervision of a full-time 8a clinical psychologist, B7 art therapist and assistant psychologist, with emphasis on evidence-base practice, outcome measures and audit data.
About the Role/Service
The male inpatient pathway comprises two wards totaling 33 beds; NSFT’s broader inpatient service includes five wards and a crisis resolution home treatment team, with potential additional ward openings later this year. Training and development opportunities are available, with links to the UEA doctorate course.
Qualifications
Essential
* Post-Graduate Doctorate in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychology
* Postgraduate qualification or training in a specific psychological therapy (e.g., CAT, CBT, DBT)
Desirable
* Evidence of CPD training in supervision of others
* Evidence of CPD training in clinical leadership
* Evidence of CPD training in a clinical specialty relevant to the role
Experience
Essential
* Relevant inpatient experience (acute or forensic)
* Extensive experience working with adults with severe and complex MH difficulties
* Qualified psychologist with substantial professional experience (ideally 4+ years)
Desirable
* Experience in acute adult MH settings (inpatient, CRHT, or psychiatric liaison)
* Experience providing line management and supervising junior colleagues or trainees
* Experience delivering training to staff and applying diverse psychological therapies to complex cases
