Overview
Theatre Practitioner Scrub Nurse — Band 5, Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Croydon University Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic, caring and motivated individual to join the Theatre team as a Theatre Practitioner. We are particularly interested in candidates with Theatre scrub experience who are committed to developing themselves, others and supporting the teams. You will be a role model for best practice and high-quality patient care, rotating through different specialties in Theatre and supporting intraoperative activities.
Working in Theatre, you will rotate through the different specialties, including Emergency theatres, learning to become an expert in the patient; team leading intraoperative/scrubbing, and ensuring excellent patient care is maintained throughout the patient\'s pathway. The department is supported by dedicated multidisciplinary teams and practice educators. We are a close-knit organisation where employees are valued, and we believe our people are our greatest asset.

Main duties of the job and duties description are as follows.
Responsibilities
* Prepare the clinical areas (theatres) to receive patients for surgical procedures.
* Provide assistance in clinical areas for immediate post-operative care when needed.
* Assist in the positioning and preparation of the patient as directed by the surgical team.
* Ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the lab.
* Ensure all care is documented on the IT system, including disposables, and that everything is logged accurately in accordance with Trust and departmental policy and procedures.
* Help control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding:
o Uniform code
o Maintaining a clean working environment
o Decontamination/sterilisation procedures
o Aseptic technique

* Essentials: Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner registered with NMC or HPC
* UK Recognised Anaesthetic course (for nurses wanting to practice Anaesthetics)
* Evidence of continued professional development

Experience
Essential: Up-to-date clinical knowledge with experience in an acute setting.
Desirable: Previous perioperative experience; ability to supervise and motivate others.
Skills and Knowledge
* Able to work in theatres with minimum supervision after achieving set objectives within 3–6 months
* Planning, delivering and evaluating care
* Problem solving and analytical skills
* Ability to prioritise clinical need and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills
* Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
Other factors / Special circumstances
* Adaptable, able to work as part of a team, and under pressure
* Able to work a rota of mixed shifts as required
