Communications & Engagement Assistant (Digital)

Provide efficient administrative, coordination and content-support across the Communications & Engagement Directorate, enabling timely delivery of campaigns, events and staff communications.
The post-holder will:
* Support colleagues across internal, external, digital and engagement teams with day‑to‑day activities and administration.
* Draft basic content for web, intranet and social media under supervision.
* Assist with event and campaign delivery and evaluation.
* Maintain team trackers, diaries and procurement records.
* Contribute to cross‑portfolio activity across media, digital, internal and engagement functions, supporting a flexible and integrated Communications & Engagement service for the Bristol NHS Group.
This is a developmental entry‑level role, suitable for individuals beginning a communications career or for those seeking to broaden their experience across different functions.
This role is open to internal applicants from NBT and UHBW.

Job responsibilities
Manage shared inboxes and forward enquiries within one working day. Maintain the team tracker, WIP log and contact database; update weekly. Book meetings, take minutes and distribute actions within 48 hours. Order supplies and process low‑value invoices via procurement system.
Assist in preparing press releases, social posts and intranet articles for approval. Gather stories and photographs from staff and services for internal news. Upload approved content to the intranet and social channels using Canva templates and Hootsuite. Maintain the content calendar and flag deadlines weekly to the Communications Manager.
Support delivery of staff briefings, campaign launches and community events (approx. one per month). Book venues, catering and equipment; issue joining instructions 48 hours before each event. Welcome attendees and assist with sign‑in and photography. Collate attendance and feedback for evaluation within five working days.
Maintain the photo and asset library file, rename and tag content weekly. Support the Digital Team by checking intranet links and accessibility quarterly. Upload web content, assist with analytics and maintain digital assets. Run basic analytics reports (social reach, intranet views) and share with Managers monthly. Determine how to present items for communication prior to approval. Proactively suggest improvements to team systems and templates. Complete mandatory training and relevant MS 365 or design courses annually. Demonstrate the Group's values of Respect, Collaboration, Support and Innovation in all work.

Education & training
* Educated to A level or equivalent
* Evidence of ongoing CPD
* Business Administration or Communications qualification (Level 3+)
* Administrative experience in a large organisation
* Experience supporting events or projects
* Experience creating basic digital or print materials
* NHS or public‑sector experience
* Experience using social media for work
Skills and knowledge
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills
* Clear writing and proof‑reading skills
* Ability to work to tight deadlines
* Basic Canva or Adobe skills
* Understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.2)
