Job Title: Care Home Chef
Location:Wessex Gate, Waterlooville (PO8), PO8 9LN
Reports To: Care Home Manager / Head Chef
Job Summary:
The Care Home Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for residents, ensuring dietary requirements are met, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety. The role requires creativity, compassion, and an understanding of the unique dietary needs of elderly residents.
Key Responsibilities:
* Meal Planning & Preparation
o Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to residents dietary requirements, preferences, and health conditions.
o Plan weekly menus, incorporating variety and seasonal ingredients.
o Adapt meals for residents with allergies, dysphagia, diabetes, or other health-related dietary needs.
* Food Safety & Hygiene
o Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health, and safety standards.
o Maintain clean and organized kitchen facilities.
o Monitor and record food temperatures, storage, and expiration dates.
* Stock Management
o Order, receive, and store kitchen supplies and ingredients efficiently.
o Monitor inventory and minimize waste.
* Collaboration & Communication
o Work closely with care staff to understand residents dietary needs and preferences.
o Provide guidance to kitchen assistants or other catering staff.
o Communicate with management regarding menu planning, stock levels, and resident satisfaction.
* Resident Experience
o Present meals attractively to enhance residents dining experience.
o Ensure meals are served on time and meet the expectations of residents.
o Respond to residents feedback and make adjustments as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Catering or equivalent.
* Proven experience as a Chef, preferably in a care home, healthcare, or hospitality setting.
* Knowledge of nutritional needs for elderly residents.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
