Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility advises senior management on reputation issues, drives proactive reputation-building programmes and manages communications with stakeholders including the media, government, regulators, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), communities and colleagues.
About Strategic Policy Group (SPG)
The Strategic Policy Group comprises Government Relations, Regulatory Policy and Regulatory Relations in each of the jurisdictions that we operate. The function provides direct advice on strategic policy matters to the Group Chief Executive, Executive Committee and Board and oversees the Group’s interactions with governments and regulators, and the development of policy and advocacy in all of the jurisdictions in which the Group operates.
About Government Relations & Policy
Government Relations & Policy is responsible for the Group’s relationships with political and governmental stakeholders, for analysing and responding to emerging policy issues and advocacy on behalf of Barclays, its customers and clients on relevant matters, as well as leading the bank’s engagement with regulatory agencies on significant policy matters.
Secure Barclays’ public policy and advocacy objectives in support of the commercial priorities of Barclays UK, Private Bank & Wealth Management, and our various payments businesses. Drive engagement with UK and where necessary, EU public and regulatory policy institutions that have a material impact on Barclays. Devise and implement a programme of senior engagement in the political and policy discourse to position Barclays as an influential and thoughtful contributor on societal and economic challenges that are of relevance to Barclays UK.
Identify and execute against public policy advocacy objectives aligned to Barclay UK, Private Bank and Wealth Management, and our payments businesses.
Mitigate reputational risk as and when it presents.
Identify interdependences between other teams within UK GR&P to ensure a coherent and holistic approach to public policy advocacy.
Work closely and collaboratively across SPG and PPCR to ensure the delivery of policy objectives.
Seek and create opportunities, platforms, and other engagements for Barclays to advance its public policy objectives to maximise Barclays’ impact on public policy development.
Experience of dealing with government and regulatory stakeholders, possibly gained through working in a regulator, government or financial services areas of a professional services firm.
Excellent communication skills - spoken and written and an ability to explain complex policy issues and topics at a non-technical level.
Relevant experience, possibly gained by working in a bank or through working in a regulator or financial services firm covering retail banking.
