Instructor – Zoo Mammals - Animal Health and Welfare Research Centre (AHWRC)
* Salary: Up to £26,952 (dependent upon qualifications and experience)
* Working Pattern: Maternity cover 1-year fixed-term contract, full-time permanent position also available. (37 hours per week / 52 weeks)

We are seeking a zoo mammal specialist to join our Animal Management team for a maternity cover position, with a permanent cross-sectional instructor role also available.
The AHWRC is a leading practical teaching facility housing a wide range of domestic and exotic animal species. The centre holds several industry-recognised licenses, including a zoo licence, and is BIAZA accredited.
The maternity cover position involves teaching and assessing animal husbandry to groups of students focused on our zoo mammal section, which includes species such as Lemurs, Tenrec, Genet, Meerkat, Porcupine, and Red Panda. The permanent role involves teaching across our herptile and small mammal sections, with opportunities to learn and teach about other animal species.
Practical skills with power tools to assist in enclosure management, enrichment creation, etc., are desirable to support the delivery of our T-level qualification.
This is an exciting opportunity to educate future animal professionals. As an instructor, you will contribute to species collection planning, enclosure design, and animal husbandry.
You will be expected to deliver exceptional practical teaching using various animal species and support the daily husbandry of your assigned section.
Candidates should have at least a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field, such as Animal Management, and demonstrate significant professional experience working with a variety of animals. A passion for animals and a commitment to helping learners reach their potential are essential.
The post holder should hold or be willing to attain a teaching qualification. Experience in an educational setting is preferred.
This position is based at the Sparsholt campus; the ability to drive is desirable.
