East Riding of Yorkshire Council is one of the largest employers in the area with over 10,000 staff covering all types of professions. People Services play an essential role by managing workforce activity, including functions such as employee relations, recruitment, payroll, organisational development, equality diversity and inclusion, safety services, policy and reward, corporate administration, disclosure and barring service and occupational health.
The HR Advice Centre sits at the heart of People Services as a key administrative support function, working closely with each of these teams. Reporting to the Employment Services Advisor, the team of 15 have an interesting and varied job role working with both internal and external customers. Tasks include:
* Issuing Statements of Main Terms and Conditions and updates.
* Processing employee updates on the council's HR/payroll system (iTrent).
* Offer guidance and support on staff policies via email and phone.
* Action and update records for the Teachers Pensions and Local Government Pensions Schemes.
* First point of contact for People Services queries.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to expand their HR knowledge and experience or start their career in HR with previous customer service experience and are confident undertaking basic administrative duties. Full training will be provided on all relevant council systems however a basic understanding of employment terms and conditions or pay legislation could be advantageous.
Our staff are our most important asset and we value a healthy work/ life balance therefore the HR Advice Centre operates a flexible working system Monday to Friday. The new starter would be expected to work in the office for the initial training period. Following this, there is flexibility to work from home, with the requirement to attend the office on a regular day. There will be a requirement to attend on other days, such as for training events, but these will be planned in advance. Daily working hours may be negotiable to assist with caring responsibilities etc.
