Octagon Group are partnering exclusively with a leading Satellite Communications Engineering organisation in West London / Hertfordshire who have over 40 years of heritage in the industry. Following sustained year-on-year growth and significant investment into Space and advanced SATCOM programmes, they are now looking to appoint a Director of RF Engineering to lead and scale their RF and Systems Engineering capability.
As Director of RF Engineering, you will take ownership of the RF systems strategy across satellite payloads and ground segment platforms. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, define technical roadmaps, and ensure delivery of high-performance RF architectures from concept through to qualification and production. This is a highly visible leadership position, working closely with executive leadership, customers and key technology partners.
Key Responsibilities:
* Define and execute the RF systems strategy aligned with Space and SATCOM growth objectives
* Lead RF Systems architecture development across L-band through Ka-band satellite payloads and ground segment solutions
* Oversee end-to-end system definition including link budgets, RF chains, antenna systems and system validation
* Drive technical governance, design reviews and risk management across major programmes
* Build, mentor and scale high-performing RF and Systems Engineering teams
* Act as senior technical interface with customers, suppliers and regulatory bodies
* Support business development through technical input to bids, proposals and customer engagements
Skills / Experience we’re looking for:
* Strong technical background in RF and Microwave Engineering within Space and/or SATCOM environments
* Proven experience leading RF Systems architecture development across both satellite payloads and ground segment infrastructure
* Deep understanding of L-band to Ka-band systems, link budgets, antenna systems, amplifiers, filters, frequency planning and end-to-end RF chains
* Demonstrable leadership experience managing senior engineers and cross-functional teams
* Experience delivering complex RF and Space programmes from concept through qualification and production
* Academic background in Electronics, RF, Microwave Engineering, Physics or similar (Masters / PhD advantageous)
