What the role involves
Developing feasibility, outline, and detailed designs for a broad spectrum of traffic-related projects. These may include active travel routes, bus priority measures, school-focused street improvements, junction and corridor upgrades, and road safety assessments.
Ensuring all deliverables meet the requirements of the project brief and comply with internal quality assurance processes.
Preparing comprehensive technical documentation, including cost estimates, and offering specialist input where needed.
Providing support and guidance to less experienced colleagues, checking their drawings, reports, and other outputs to maintain quality and consistency.
Completing design-stage risk assessments and producing pre-construction information in line with CDM regulations.
What we're looking for
* A relevant engineering degree or HND/HNC (or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of highways and traffic engineering principles, with hands-on experience producing traffic and highway designs using AutoCAD.
* Experience designing junction layouts, such as roundabouts and/or signalised junctions.
* Experience in active travel or bus priority design.
* Familiarity with design standards and legislation, such as TSRGD, DMRB, and Manual for Streets.
* Awareness of CDM regulations and health and safety requirements.
Desirable additional skills
* Knowledge of KeySIGN/SignPlot and/or KeyLINES.
* Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
* Experience working with GIS tools.
* Traffic modelling skills (e.g., LinSig, PICADY/ARCADY).
* Experience producing detailed traffic engineering designs.
* Involvement in road safety audits
