Job Description

The role of Clinical Specialist; Safeguarding is a key role within Devon Partnership Trust providing safeguarding leadership across both child and adult safeguarding domains, leading complex enquiries and working closely with partner agencies.

The role includes active contribution to developing learning from safeguarding adults reviews, domestic homicide reviews and child practice reviews, alongside the delivery of training and close work with our multi-agency partner colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The safeguarding team in the Trust offers a duty function- contributing to multi-agency triage of safeguarding concerns through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub and liaison with Local Authority Safeguarding Adults teams alongside provision of advice and supervision to clinicians of all disciplines within the Trust.

Providing leadership on the implementation of change, ensuring the embedding of a think-family culture and improving compliance with legislative frameworks are all key aspects of the work alongside supporting clinicians who are leading individual safeguarding enquiries. The post-holder will lead complex safeguarding adults enquiries and contribute as required to large-scale organisational abuse enquiries.

The post-holder will be working in a wide variety of clinical contexts, supporting clinicians working with adults and older adults and individuals with both mental health and/or learning disabilities and will contribute to the development of policies and training

The position requires specialist knowledge of all safeguarding disciplines children, adults and the associated legislation for both domains.

The Role Includes


* Providing highly specialist and complex advice to a wide range of health professionals regarding Adult and Children Safeguarding, MAPPA and MARAC processes and procedures.
* Working in close collaboration with other agencies to promote ways of working which ensure that inter-agency boundaries are not obstacles for achieving quality outcomes and patient safety.
* Managing highly sensitive and highly complex information relating to protecting vulnerable children and adults from abuse and neglect
* Challenging, where appropriate, multiagency plans of care to minimise risks relating to safeguarding.
* Delivering training and consultation on all aspects of child and adult safeguarding
* Critically reviewing care and care records to identify good practice and areas for development for individuals or systems
* Provide Safeguarding Supervision and consultation to clinicians from a wide range of disciplines and experience both within Devon Partnership Trust and to colleagues from other agencies such as the Local Authority
* Be able to accurately and promptly assess emergency situations and be able to offer advice, direct or provide fast appropriate interventions.
* The ability to collate information gained from investigations following critical incidents in order to produce action plans to prevent future incidents and safeguard staff and patient safety
* The post-holder must have good time management skills, as the post holder will be responsible for prioritising their own workload.
* The ability to plan, organise and chair complex meetings e.g. when planning and implementing changes in practice.
* The post-holder should be able to demonstrate flexibility and be able to prioritise the workload when difficult situations arise.
* The post holder will contribute to the development of best practice standards in the protection and empowerment of service users, particularly in the areas of assessment, service provision, inspection, registration, accreditation and training

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

* The post holder should have experience of delivering training to multi-disciplinary groups of professionals

Desirable

* Previous experience in a safeguarding role

Knowledge and skills

Essential

* Legal Literacy - effective knowledge of key legislation pertinent to safeguarding including the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act

Desirable

* Computer literacy - the ability to use microsoft word, excel, powerpoint tools and to update contemporaneous databases and dashboards

Qualifications

Essential

* The post-holder must be a registered clinician - nurse, social worker, psychologist, therapist with detailed knowledge of both adult and child safeguarding including experience of undertaking safeguarding adults enquiries

Desirable

* Masters qualification in safeguarding Experience of leading and delivering training to multi-disciplinary groups of professionals Safeguarding Supervision training
